Keffi

I was on holiday when I came across one of the many stray cats at the hotel I attended in kefalonia.
I had asked about to find out how I could adopt one of the cats I had connected with. I had no idea what the process would be like,I imagined it to be really difficult and stressful.
Someone at the hotel mentioned kefalonia animal trust and from there I messaged them and the process began. They were so incredibly helpful and explained the whole process to me. They organise absolutely everything. Cattery, check.
Vets, check.
Transportation to get your furry friend back in your arms again, check.
Kefalonia animal trust made the journey  happen, it starts with them.
So incredibly grateful and thankful for such a helpful organisation!

Bobbi

The wonderful team at Kefalonia Animal Trust (KATs) are doing amazing work and helping to save and improve the lives of so many animals. Our fury companion Bobbi being no exception… who we found as a tiny kitten on the streets of Kefalonia, Greece. Bobbi was malnourished, had flees, worms and an infected eye. His mum was nowhere to be seen and the bigger cats on the street were attacking him, so I scooped him up and knew from that moment on, he was going to have a better life.
Bobbi was too young at the time and yet to have all of his vaccinations that would allow him to travel to the UK. So the ladies at KATs took him under their wing and looked after him for a couple of months, until he was ready to travel to his forever home with us.
We were regularly updated with adorable pictures of Bobbi throughout his stay at the cattery. He was being well socialised with other cats and dogs, he came to us litter trained and oh so friendly. It was evident he had received much love from them and for that we are eternally grateful. Bobbi is thriving and has grown so much since the day we first found him. He is fit and healthy, loves lounging around in the sun, playing with fluffy companion; labrador Blue and very much enjoys going off into the countryside to explore. Each evening, he wonders home, tucks into some dinner and then curls up into us for the night. He is a real purr machine and we love him so much!
Thank you to all involved in his journey. You have been important puzzle pieces in getting him to where he is now… happy, safe and sound.

Bambi

“The Kefalonia Animal Trust was invaluable when we reached out to them, wanting to adopt a kitten we met on the island in September 2022.  Without their advice, experience, professionalism and genuine compassion for the enormous stray population on the island, we wouldn’t have had a clue as to how to re-home her and arrange her transport to the UK.  Catherine Candy was an angel and pulled out the stops to get us a speedy Vet appointment and start the adoption process .  She also secured us another angel in Janice Holmes, who was our wonderful and very reasonably-priced foster carer, looking after our kitten, who we named Bambi, in the interim period before we were ready to return to Kefalonia and bring Bambi to the UK. Between them, Catherine and Janice ensured Bambi was given the necessary vaccinations and equipped us with all the adoption paperwork and documentation required.  And they kept us updated at every stage with news and photos of Bambi’s progress while in their care.  A month later our journey home with Bambi went smoothly from the flight to Paris to the onward drive to Kent.  Bambi travelled in her basket sitting next to me on the aircraft and she was quick to settle in to her new home. We’ve never known a more cuddly cat – it’s as though she knew we’d all rescued her and she appreciated it.  That’s entirely due to the teamwork , dedication, advice, love and support of Catherine, Janice and Rob and all the staff at the Kefalonia Animal Trust.  I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone. They took all of the guesswork out of the adoption process, saving us time and making the experience straightforward and very rewarding”.

Christos

In the early days of our holiday last year we were dining at a local restaurant in the village we were staying when a large black and white dog was wandering around the tables looking for food, he was such a friendly boy, he ate with us then off he popped.

Our villa was about 10 minute walk from the restaurant and randomly he turned up at our villa one day and that was the start of our journey.

I posted on Facebook asking for help and was directed to Janice Holmes, who volunteers with KAT and fosters  dogs and cats, fortunately for us, she had availability.

Of course, the day we were due to take him to the kennels, there was no sign of him. He turned up on our last evening, so we barricaded him in the garden.

On the morning we were leaving, we took him to Janice and Robs and that was the beginning of his new life.

Christos spent just over a month with Janice and Rob who did an amazing job, getting him to walk on a lead, they took him for vet checks, inoculations and sorted out is pet passport. KAT also paid for him to be neutered which was amazing. They escorted him to the mainland when the time came for his long journey “home”

I can’t thank them enough, without their help and dedication it would never have been possible and goodness knows what is life would be like now?

He has been with us since September 2022 and settled in amazing and is absolutely loving life.

Thank you for all your help, advice and going above and beyond to change this boys life forever.

Bob

My daughter and I have been to Kefalonia many times, always staying in Skala at the same hotel. This was our 6th visit and first holiday after the pandemic(we almost booked a different Greek island, just to try somewhere new!)

We were really surprised to see so many street cats this year, many more than previous years. We’d joked before going on the holiday about finding a street cat to bring home but already having 2 cats at home, didn’t think it would be possible.

We hadn’t been able to stay at our usual hotel in Skala this time, so found somewhere just on the outskirts of the village. We met Bob on the busy road outside of our apartments. He was a skinny, scruffy and quite dirty white with tabby cat that meowed and came over to us asking for food with another tabby girl, who was very timid. We quickly started to carry an extra bottle of water to top up bowls when we passed and some dry cat biscuits. Bob started to meet us at the same spot on “his road” each evening and began following us back to our apartment, none of the other street cats we’d met before had followed us, so we were impressed by his confidence. We were a bit wary to let him into the apartment at first but he was very friendly, so he came in for some water, cat biscuits and to cool off in the air con.

He stayed overnight with us a few times and began to play in the apartment with the edge of a bed sheet or a ball made from screwed up paper. He even got up onto the bed and slept by my feet for a while (I did have a quick look in his fur for fleas and didn’t see any). We’d met many street cats, most of whom would let us smooth them, but Bob was the most affectionate cat we’d ever met. He let me pick him up to carry him over a busy road, although he was pretty good at waiting for traffic to pass and he let us brush his fur and bathe him, whilst he ate biscuits on the edge of the shower, to get some of the dust off of him. After that I couldn’t bear to leave him behind. I contacted a local charity about 3 days before we were due to leave and said he was in our apartment, what should I do?  We borrowed a cat carrier from a local lady who fed and checked the street cats and took Bob in a taxi to Argostoli to see a vet for a check up and start the process of adoption. The process was really easy, just a visit to a couple of offices in Argostoli to have documents filled in and stamped. Bob then went to stay in a “cat hotel” to quarantine and make sure his vaccines had worked before travelling to England. We had regular photos and videos of him during his stay and eventually he arrived in England. He’s settled in very well and gets on OK with our existing cats. He’s very healthy, put on weight and his fur is now incredibly soft and silky and white. We are so thankful we met him and got to bring him home and that the process was made very easy.

Many thanks,

Lois & Bonnie

Ghost

Our boy, Ghost: Did and I met Ghost in August last year whilst on holiday in Kefalonia. He’s a friendly boy and was popular with the other guests, but as we were on the ground floor he spent a lot of his time with us (I’m not mistaking that for special favour – I know cats are opportunist bandits). We thought about whether we could take him home with us, but with two cats already and no idea how to make it happen, we ended up going home without him. We immediately regretted it, and then felt even more regret when a huge storm hit the island in September. We contacted the owner of the apartments to find out if Ghost was still there, and he told us that another guest had taken him to an animal shelter. Not true; Ghost had been dumped a few miles down the road. Quite unbelievably (or perhaps not, knowing Ghost) he had befriended another couple on holiday who wanted to adopt him. Due to personal circumstances they realised they couldn’t take him, yet still kindly paid for him to be neutered, with advice and assistance from kats. It was at this point that we contacted kats and found Ghost, to become his back up Mum and Dad.

We are so grateful for all the help from kats volunteer Catherine Candy for fostering him and guiding us through the process of getting him home. Ghost has now settled in with his new brother and sister, and is busy making friends with all our neighbours (the opportunist bandit is still stealing hearts). None of this would have happened without the support of Catherine and the kats charity. They work tirelessly to raise funds for cats to be fed and neutered, and in Catherine’s  case, volunteer their home, heart and time to help people like us adopt our fur babies. This is such an amazing charity, trying to turn the tide on animal welfare in Kefalonia. If you can, please donate via PayPal: Kefalonia.animal.trust@gmail.com Many thanks ❤️❤️❤️
